Farm

Advancing farm animal welfare, health and sustainable farming.

The Langford Trust supports farm animal studies that deliver lasting returns—advancing animal welfare and health, supporting sustainable food systems, and ensuring evidence leads directly to improvements on farm and across the sector.

At Bristol Veterinary School, farm animal research is designed for impact at scale, from national and international herd studies to cellular and molecular science. Aligned with the themes of Population Health and Global Food Security, interdisciplinary teams generate actionable evidence through programmes such as the AMR Force team’s work on antimicrobial use and resistance, and collaborations with the UK Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL). Specialist facilities, including the CIEL poultry unit and John Oldacre Farm Platform, ensure funding translates into data-driven outcomes that improve livestock health, productivity and sustainability.
